Rachel Yankey to win 100th Cap for England

Show Racism the Red Card congratulate Rachel on her landmark achievement!

More on this article...

Rachel Yankey is a long term supporter of Show Racism the Red Card and attended our Anti-Racist Schools Competition Award Ceremony at Wembley Stadium earlier this year.  She is pictured here with prize-winner Drew Young and SRtRC patron Earl Barrett.

Rachel is tonight set to earn her 100th cap, becoming only the second England Women's player to reach the century mark.

The team play against Turkey in the Women's World Cup qualifiers.  Victory would secure the team's place as Group Five winners, earning them top seeding ahead of the qualifying play-offs that all European teams - host nation Germany apart - must get through to reach the 2011 finals.

Speaking about this accomplishment, Yankey said:

"It will be amazing.  It will be right up there with the biggest highlights of my career [but on Thursday], I won't be thinking of my 100th cap, I'll be concentrating on helping England to win a game that can take us closer to the World Cup finals.  It will probably mean more to me when I've finished playing."

We would like to extend our congratulations to Rachel and would like to wish her and the team every success in their World Cup bid.
